In most cases, polished concrete doesn’t need wax — especially if it’s been properly densified and sealed. The polished finish is created by grinding the concrete with progressively finer diamond pads, leaving behind a smooth, glossy surface that’s built to last without extra coatings.
However, in certain environments like retail or industrial spaces, wax can offer an extra layer of protection. It’s not about shine — it’s about wear resistance. If your floor sees heavy traffic or isn’t sealed, a thin coat of polish-safe wax can help extend its life.
Start by dust-mopping and cleaning the floor with a pH-neutral cleaner. Remove all grit and residue, and allow the surface to dry fully. Waxing over dirt will seal it in and dull the finish.
Use a microfibre applicator or wax mop to spread a thin layer of wax evenly. Avoid puddling or overlapping. Some waxes can be sprayed, then spread by pad or buffer.
Once dry (usually after 30–60 minutes), buff the floor with a high-speed burnisher or white pad to bring up the gloss and even out the finish.
Keep the surface clean with a dry dust mop and use a damp microfibre mop weekly. Reapply wax every 3–6 months depending on traffic. Avoid harsh chemicals that break down wax layers.
